About Dr. Barnwell:
Dr. Richard Barnwell, DVM is the owner of Highway 92 Animal Hospital. He has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1983; however, his passion for his profession actually began many years earlier. At the ripe age of 7, he began telling everyone that he was going to be an "animal doctor" when he grew up, and over the many years that followed, he allowed nothing to deter him from that goal. Despite the fact that his family lived in an apartment and had no pets, young Richard sought out animals whenever possible. In fact, when they vacationed in the Adirondack Mountains each summer, he would get up early to go sit on the steps of a neighboring home just so he could pet their dog when they let it out every morning. At age 14, he was overjoyed when he finally got his first dog?"Snoopy," a Humane Society rescue puppy. The two remained steadfast friends for the next fourteen years.
A native of New York State, Dr. Barnwell graduated with honors from the prestigious Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Barnwell served as a staff veterinarian at Long Island's North Shore Animal League, well-known to many for its animal rescue and conservation efforts, as well as its numerous appearances on Animal Planet. Three years later, Dr. Barnwell relocated to Dallas, TX, where he practiced small-animal medicine and surgery for the next six years. After a final relocation to the Atlanta area in the early nineteen-nineties, Dr. Barnwell purchased Highway 92 Animal Hospital, where he has been practicing medicine and surgery ever since.
Dr. Barnwell is married to Cindy, a high school English teacher, and is the father of Nick, a student at Auburn University. The Barnwell family also includes two much-loved dogs, Moe, a black lab mix, and Rocky, a Boxer.
Dr. Barnwell's top priority is to provide high quality medical and surgical care to all his patients. He strives to treat every pet as though it were his own and to offer each client outstanding service. Because he is a sole-practitioner, Dr. Barnwell knows most of his clients and patients well, and his hospital exudes a family atmosphere. On a typical day, it is not uncommon to find him sitting on an exam room floor, interacting with his furry patients while conversing with their owners. He (and his staff) truly loves animals and is committed to keeping them healthy and happy.
